Seefeel

polyfusia cover image

I know next to nothing about Seefeel. They existed wholely within a timeframe when music was the farthest thing from my mind. But once I did discover them near the end of last century I was smitten (well, at least a tiny little bit).

I'd read somewhere that they made electronic music without the use of synthesisers! I have no idea if this is true (all the time) but the results are certainly electronic, flooded with effects and echo and reverb. And loops - don't forget the loops, will you? It may be hard to get them out of your mind once you've heard them. And 'dub' - you won't be forgetting that either as it's an omnipresent thud to underline it all.

Unfortunately, I can really only recommend their album "Quique" as the one you'd need to buy(if you still can - I got mine through CDUniverse in 1999). It has the standard elements that they use in all their recordings but the repititions are better and the chord progressions are wonderfull instead of being just slightly interesting.

2 mp3s from this album then:

Filter Dub (8mb)
Imperial (6mb)

The main seefeel page is here which has all the links you can possibly find and even more audio for your listening pleasure.

  • thank you, phil. that's some great dark hypnotic music. reminds me a bit of loveless but with a more ambient feel. it really is very minimal and repetitive but all those layers are fascinating. the kind of atmospheric music you can't escape when it's on. it draws you in. almost like a musical drug. trance-inducing. makes me think of the dancing dervishes. turning around themselves very slowly though. i really love filter dub. as you said the album seems to be difficult to get. somebody offers it via amazon.com for 80 dollars!

  • i think it was released about the same time as loveless so that feeling must have been in the air... it is very great stuff indeed - it made me want to listen to and own music again.

  • Used to have some Seefeel on cassette, thanks for posting these two tracks. I recall somewhere that they actually had the Aphex Twin remix some of their stuff - that'd make interesting listening, though some of his remix work can be a pain in the bum.

  • i can imagine the results would be pretty good actually - lots of reverb, for a start.

  • it is so nice to see someone mention seefeel now. they have been so overshadowed by a lot of their lesser contemporaries of the time. they are one of my favorite bands of all times and left a profound effect upon me. if you can get your hands on their rephlex disc "ch:vox" it will be worth your effort. their early ep "more like space" is also nice but, definitely not as "of it's own" as quique or pure:impure or their later work... once again thanks for mentioning them. it made this old man a very happy man!
